Malware is quite literally malicious software that is used to compromise computer functions, hijack data and evade access systems. You might think that you have the most secure system, but it is scary how quickly and efficiently malware can attack.

Bots
Bots are types of software systems created to perform specific processes. You have probably come across the term when involved in video games, internet bidding and online contests which are fairly harmless. However, spambots render pop-up adverts on websites which are controlled by unknown third parties for data attacks. You can control bot invasion by using simple CAPTCHA tests on your contact and payment forms.
Viruses
Viruses are extremely common, and if your computer system hasn’t had a virus you will definitely know someone who has. Viruses are damaging as they spread from computer to computer by attaching themselves to scripts, files, documents, and apps. The same way as a human virus, computer viruses duplicate and spread, therefore they must be stopped before doing so. Viruses are used to steal information, harm main servers, create bots and even steal money.
Spam
Spam is the electronic sending of mass messages and emails. They are dangerous because they are unsolicited. The most common form is email spam, however, they also travel via instant messages, search engines and social media. Spam is not malware, but spam is a method of sending and depositing malware elsewhere. You can avoid getting spammed by avoiding unknown emails and keeping your email address as private as possible.

- Slow system speed
- Freezing and crashing
- Strange files, programmes, and icons
- Peculiar emails being sent without your knowledge
- Modified or deleted files
- Increased CPU usage
If you think you have active malware on your system then act fast! Install and run anti-virus and anti-malware software regularly and keep your software systems up to date. Be vigilant when downloading anything as this is the most common way malware can get into your system.
